Constructivist education topic of early childhood symposium at ISU

Idaho State University College of Education will host an Early Childhood Symposium on Constructivist Education at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the College of Education Auditorium, Room ED 243.

Rheta DeVries, Ph.D., professor of curriculum and instruction at University of Northern Iowa, will give the keynote address titled “A Constructivist Approach to Science in EC Classrooms: Physical-Knowledge Activities.”

DeVries is a leader in early childhood education.  She earned her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Illinois in 1968 and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.  DeVries has co-authored four books on Early Childhood Constructivist Education and has international partnerships with universities in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Italy and Germany. 

ISU’s College of Education invites everyone to attend and learn more about how to provide developmentally appropriate physical knowledge activities to enhance early childhood science curricula in public education. Admission is free.
