POCATELLO – Celebrate the kickoff of the Idaho State-Civic Symphony’s 2018-19 season on Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center Jensen Grand Concert Hall.

Join the symphony and its new artistic director and conductor Julie Sorensen as they bring symphony favorites to life and showcase regional Idaho musicians and artists.

The evening includes a preconcert tailgate from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Stephens Center hosted by the ISU Alumni Association. Dinner is $25 per person and tickets must be reserved by Sept. 17. Tickets are available at thesymphony.us

The 2018-19 season features guest artists and music related to Idaho culture and the first concert will feature local artist and symphony concertmaster Hyeri Choi.

Choi is an assistant professor of violin at ISU, where she coordinates the string program, teaches violin, viola and related courses, and guides the Summer String Institute. Before becoming the symphony’s concertmaster, she served as a guest concertmaster of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, assistant concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and principal of second violin of the Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra in Korea.

The symphony will play the powerful rhythms of Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture” and Borodin’s “Symphony No. 2” along with the delicate, but beautiful, Mendelssohn “Violin Concerto” featuring Choi. The symphony will end the performance with Debussy’s “Symphony in B Minor.”

The evening also features the artistic works of ISU students Wendy Roberts and William Bybee.

Bring your friends, bring your family, come and celebrate with the symphony. Tickets are available at isu.edu/tickets or at (208) 282-3595.
