Freshman Admission Information

Some select ISU because of a specific academic program (we offer nearly 275). Some choose ISU because of our fantastic location. No matter the reasons, all ISU students receive an excellent education at an affordable price!

You are a Freshman if: You have never attended a university before, excluding ISU's Early College Program.

Admission Requirements

  • 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Idaho high school graduates must meet all Idaho Core Requirements

Students not meeting these requirements may still be considered for conditional admission

Required Materials

  • Application
  • $50 application fee
    (waived for graduates of Idaho high schools)
  • High school transcript or GED

Students applying to the College of Technology must schedule an appointment with an advisor as part of the admissions process. Call (208) 282-2622 to make an appointment.

GED Requirements

GED Students

GED students younger than 18 years of age must petition the Admission Committee to be considered for admission.

GED students between 18 and 21 years of age seeking assured admission will meet the following requirements:

  1. Completed Undergraduate Application
  2. Paid $50 nonrefundable application fee.
  3. Received test scores meeting the following:
      • Math score of at least 18 on ACT or 26 on the RSAT Math Test,
      • English score of at least 18 on ACT or 25 on the RSAT Reading Test,
      • Passing score on the GED

    Current passing GED scores are considered to be a minimum 170 score on each subject test and a total of 680 for assured admissions. For conditional admissions, passing score requirements are 160 on each subject test and a total of 640. For GED tests taken prior to 2014, please see the catalog for passing GED score requirements.

GED students over 21 years of age must have a passing GED score (see above for score requirements). Applicants not meeting these requirements can petition the Admission Committee to be considered for admission.

Home School Requirements

Home School Students

Home school students seeking assured admission will meet the following requirements:

  • Completed Undergraduate Application.
  • Paid $50 nonrefundable application fee.
  • Meet one of the following:
    • Passing score on the GED   
    • Official Homeschool transcript

**test scores are not required for admission, but they are required to be considered for scholarships.

Non Accredited School Requirements

Non Accredited High School 

Students coming from a Non Accredited High School seeking assured admission will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Completed Undergraduate Application.
  • Send both of the following:
    • Official SAT or ACT test scores  
    • Official High School transcript

**test scores are not required for admission, but they are required to be considered for scholarships. 

* Submission of official ACT and/or SAT scores is not required for admission to ISU through the summer semester of 2025. Students may elect to submit these scores for course entry.

** Students seeking provisional admission need to consult with the Office of Admissions regarding submission of an assessment for university admission.
