University Intramural Sports Program. As you will discover, Intramural Sports attempts to offer something
for everyone on the Idaho State campus. Every year, hundreds of thousands of college students, faculty,
staff, and spouses just like you participate in a myriad of exciting team and individual sports activities.

How To Get Involved- Team and Tournament Entry Procedures
TEAM SPORTS
- Secure a Team Roster Form from the Campus Recreation Office in Reed Gym.
- Sign each team member's name, ID number, year in school, and phone number on the form.
- Turn in the completed Team Roster Form to the Campus Recreation Office by the deadline date and time.
- Choose a time, day, and league you want to play in (when applicable) COME EARLY.
- Pay the entry fee (when applicable) and the $20 forfeit fee.
- Pick up a copy of the rules and information sheet pertaining to the sport.
- Attend team captain's meeting to pick up copy of finalized league schedule and receive further information from the director.
INDIVIDUAL/DUAL SPORTS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
- Pick Entry Form and fill out name(s), ID numbers, phone number, and signature on the form
- Bring completed form to Campus Recreation office by the deadline date and time
- Pay the entry fee for the event
- Pick up copy of the rules and information sheet pertaining to the event
- Attend tournament meeting (if applicable) to receive any further information
NEED A TEAM?
ISU's Intramural program offers a FREE AGENT PROGRAM which will help you find a team and as a reslut meet new students with similar recreational interests. Those interested in finding a team should:
- Sign up on the "Free Agent List" at the Campus Recreation office.
- Come to the team captain's meeting to talk with teams in need of players (This is also a good way to meet and talk with other free agents to form a team if there is an open league .
- Call team captains after play begins to volunteer to assist their teams.
Sport Information

- BASKETBALL: 5 on 5 and 3 on 3 seasons
- BASKETBALL BONANZA: Single day event, timed 3-pt, free throw shooting, and more
- BEACH VOLLEYBALL
- BILLIARDS: 1 and 2 person tournaments, usually 8-ball.

- FENCING: Open to fencing students and club members
- FLAG FOOTBALL: NIRSA rules, top teams will have opportunity to attend regional championships

- INDOOR TRIATHLON: typically 750 yard swim, 5 mile bike ride, 3 mile run.

Game and Tournament Procedures
Any team or individual not ready to play a contest at the scheduled location at the scheduled time with their current IDs shall automatically forfeit the contest. In case of unavoidable delay, (weather or Campus Recreation error) the starting time may be pushed back at the discretion of the on-site supervisor. A forfeit loss may be assessed for the following circumstances: use of ineligible players; no show or late appearance for an event; use of metal spikes/cleats; unsportsmanlike behavior; failure to have the required number of participants; and alcohol/drugs. A forfeit loss may be assessed at the discretion of the Director. Contests that were completed prior to the forfeit, shall remain official. Contests not yet played shall be recorded as a win for the opposing team.
Protests will not be received or considered if they are based on the judgment of an official (ie. balls and strikes). The following procedure applies to all intramural activities. Team captains must notify game officials that the game is being played under protest immediately following a discrepancy and/or rule interpretation and contact the supervisor in charge of the activity. Officials shall note the game is being played under protest on the score sheet for the contest. Details concerning the protest should be noted on the official scoresheet at this time. Some attempt to resolve the protest shall be made prior to resuming the contest if at all possible. Following the contest, the team captain should complete a Protest Form. Notifying the officials and supervisor of a protest after one or more plays have elapsed does not constitute a valid protest. The Protest Form must be returned to the Campus Recreation office within 24 hours with a $20 "good faith" protest fee. If the protest is upheld, the $20 fee shall be returned.
Fair play and good sportsmanship is essential to the enjoyment of recreational sports, and player conduct is considered a serious issue by the Campus Recreation staff. Any team or individual, regardless of status within the university, must be able to accept defeat and the judgment of officials wholesomely without blaming others. A team is directly responsible for the conduct of both its' players and any spectators associated with that team. Any behavior which is inconsistent with the Intramural Department's "Be a Good Sport" policy, is subject to ejection, suspension from Intramural sports, and possible disciplinary action in accordance with Idaho State University's Student Code of Conduct. To discourage unsportsmanlike conduct, the following policies have been adopted:
- Disrespect Toward Staff and Officials: Any individual or team addressing a staff member or official in an unsportsmanlike or discourteous manner may immediately be disqualified and ejected from the game/event and contest area. Ejection from any event receives an automatic 1 game suspension at a minimum depending on the severity of the incident.
- Team members, captains, spectators, coaches, or entire teams may be asked to leave the playing area if displaying unsportsmanlike or disruptive behavior. Team captains and individuals may be warned prior to forfeiting the contest.
- Shoving or striking a Staff Member or Official: This shall result in suspension from all Campus Recreation activities for the remainder of the school year or next academic year in some instances. This also includes an attempt to strike, even though there may be no contact.
- Becoming Involved in a Fight: If the instigator(s) can be identified, they will be suspended from further participation in the sport. Instances of a more severe nature will result in further action. Defense is not an excuse for fighting.
- Alcohol or Drug Abuse: Alcoholic beverages and drugs are not permitted on or around the playing area. Participants who appear drunk or high due to alcohol or drug use will not be permitted to participate. The official(s) assigned to the game or any staff member has the authority to make a decision. All teams/individuals guilty of alcohol or drug abuse will be asked to leave the playing area and may be banned from further participation.
- Destruction: Any person/team that willfully causes destruction of or damage to equipment shall assume responsibility for the damage and will be assessed the full cost of repairs or replacement.
- Verbal or Implied Threats: Any individual or team which makes a verbal or implied threat causing physical or emotional damage to any staff member or official shall be suspended from all Campus Recreation activities for 60 intramural playing days.
Note: Any time an individual/team is removed from the contest or playing area, a Campus Recreation Disciplinary Report will be completed and placed on file in the Campus Recreation office. Captains or players removed from a contest by a coordinator, supervisor, or official should consider themselves ineligible for further competition until they meet with the director of Intramural Sports. The case may be referred to the IM Student Appeals Committee depending on the individual's action. This committee meets upon demand and has the final ruling. Attention:
Any player ejected twice from any intramural activity during an academic year receives an automatic 30 Intramural playing day suspension.
A participant who has been suspended from participation is not eligible to take part in intramural sports for the period of suspension. The team captain will be held responsible for any of his/her player's suspension. In the event a suspended player does play, the entire team will forfeit that contest and may be suspended from further play. Any player ejected from a game must leave the gym or playing fields immediately.
After each contest, the officials' will be asked to complete a sportsmanship rating form, evaluating the players' and spectators of each team. A team must have higher than a 3 average over the course of the season in order to participate in playoffs. The ratings will be as follows:
5: Outstanding
Well behaved, no technicals or cards of any kind.
4: Good
Good demeanor, some problems but nothing major. A team with (1) technical foul or yellow card cannot receive higher than a 4
3: Average
Team had some problems with officials or opposing players.
2: Poor
Inappropriate behavior, rough play, and poor overall conduct.
A team with player ejection or 2 accumulated technicals/yellow cards cannot receive any higher than a 2.1: Extreme
Behavior was terribleGeneral Information
Any team unable to attend a scheduled contest should notify the Campus Recreation office least 48 hours before the game.Every effort will be made to reschedule the game if at all possible. Should this be impossible, the contest will be declared a forfeit and a loss will be assessed, but the forfeit fee will be waived. The opposing team will receive a win. A second forfeit will result in the team being withdrawn from the league.
Intramural Sports cannot accept individual requests from teams or individuals to reschedule contests. Emergency requests for rescheduled games must be submitted to the Director at of the time originally scheduled. Emergency cases will be considered on an individual basis. Requests for rescheduled contests must be made in accordance with the following procedure:
- The team/individual wishing to request a rescheduled contest must make a request stating the reasons for the need of rescheduling the contest to the Director of Intramural Sports.
- The Campus Recreation staff will make the final decision concerning the approval of the request.
- If the request is approved, the Campus Recreation office will notify the appropriate team captain/ individuals of the change and the alternate playing date(s). Otherwise, the game will be played as originally scheduled.
- In rare cases, alternate plans can be devised to ensure play by both teams agreeing on an alternate time, location, etc., in a meeting with the Director of Intramural Sports.
After 3 PM on game days, call the Office of Campus Recreation at 282-3516 in case of inclement weather. In most cases, the status of the game will be decided at the field.
The Intramural staff cannot be responsible for checking the eligibility of all persons who participate in intramural sports. Each person is responsible for meeting eligibility requirements. Team captains should confirm the eligibility of players on their rosters. Captains are urged to warn or question opposing teams and players prior to the event if there is any concern with eligibility.
IDs: All participants must provide a current validated ISU Bengal Card before participating. These cards are kept by the intramural supervisor during the event. Any participant must be affiliated with the University as a student, faculty/staff, or spouse. In order to be considered a student, one must be currently enrolled in at least one (1) class hour. Individuals who enroll and then drop their courses are no longer considered eligible.
All team members must be listed on the official team roster in the Campus Recreation Office to participate. Any student not listed on the official team roster prior to play is ineligible. Only the team captain may add players-no phone call please. Players may be added through the first two weeks of the season. Participants may play on only one team per sport. Exception: You may play on a men's or women's team and a co-rec team in the same sport. Furthermore, a participant is not allowed to transfer from one team to another after a scheduled game on which that participant's name appears on the scoresheet. Exceptions: Anyone listed as a member of a team that has been dropped from competition without having played a game.
Varsity Athletes: Any student who receives financial aid, practices with a varsity team, or red-shirts is considered a varsity athlete, and will not be allowed to participate in that intramural sport. In addition, NO intramural team shall have more than 4 varsity athletes on their roster.
*NOTE: Any team with more than two (2) varsity athletes, may NOT play in the lowest division offered.
Former Varsity Athletes: Any former member of an intercollegiate varsity team will not be eligible to participate in the sport in which he/she has been a varsity member unless it has been one calendar year (365 days) since their last play date. Teams are limited to a maximum of one former intercollegiate varsity team member in that sport or related sport on the entry form.
Professional Athletes: Any student, who was/is a professional athlete, shall not be eligible for the activity of his or her specialty.
Sport Club Members: Only two members of an Idaho State sport club may be on a team in their sport.
Anyone who is a member of two teams in one sport (except where rules permit) shall be declared ineligible for the remainder of that sport and subject to probation. The second team for which the ineligible player played shall receive a loss for all games in which that person competed. The game being played when the individual is ruled ineligible shall be a loss by the team for which the ineligible player participated. The captain of the offending team will receive a written warning from the Director of Intramural Sports. Should the team be involved in additional eligibility infractions, further disciplinary action will result. If it is determined that the removal of an ineligible player(s) will result in a team which does not have the required number of individuals to start the contest, the team will receive a & quot; forfeit loss.& quot; If the use of an ineligible player is detected during the playoffs no later than 10:00 AM the day following the infraction, the last offended team shall advance in playoff competition.
Idaho State University is NOT responsible for injuries incurred by participants or spectators while competing in Intramural Sports. Each participant is required to sign a waiver prior to competing in any Intramural Sport. All injuries should be reported to a Campus Recreation employee immediately. The staff will fill out an accident report form and recommend if further care/ assistance is required.
Divisions of participation are utilized to provide a more enjoyable and competitive atmosphere. Divisions for men, women, and co-rec teams are offered in virtually all team and in many individual/dual activities. Divisions are always dependent on the number of entries.

Co-Rec League: males and females on same teamPlayers may be added to rosters throughout the first two weeks. However, no players may be added after the second week of the regular season. Captains must add players in person at the Campus Recreation Office. Individuals must be listed on a team's roster with ID number before they may participate. A player must play one regular season game to play in playoffs.
T-shirts will be presented to a limited number of students on the Championship teams in each division. The number of T-shirts distributed to the championship teams is one and one-half times the number of participants on the playing field/court of that particular activity. Additional T-shirts are not available; please do not ask. Individual T-shirts will be presented to all individual and dual event champions. Campus Recreation reserves the right to modify its policy concerning awards.
INTRAMURAL POINT SYSTEM
That's right ladies and gentlemen, it's back, and bigger than ever. Think that you and your team has what it takes to make it to the top? Is your Hall the best on campus? Take a shot at the All Campus Championship!
The purpose of the Intramural Sports Program is to provide exercise, recreation, social interaction, and most importantly fun to all participants in a relaxed yet structured environment. In order to encourage more students, faculty/staff, clubs, and other university organizations to join in the fun, Intramural Sports has adopted a point system that allows for the crowning of an All-Campus Champion at the end of each academic year. The point system provides more incentive for individuals and groups to participate in Intramural Sports. The point system does foster competition, but the emphasis maintains its focus on having fun through participation.
