University Honors Program Announces nine candidates for the Honors Bachelor degree.


The University Honors Program (UHP) held its annual Recognition Dinner on April 20 to recognize upcoming Honors graduates. Nine undergraduate UHP students have submitted and defended their Theses' and will receive Honors Bachelor degrees.  ISU is the only university in Idaho to offer the Honors Bachelor degree.  There will also be 32 University Honors Program students graduating with the Honors Distinction. All students will graduate and be honored at the ISU Commencement in May 7, 2016. Students receiving the Honors Bachelor degree are:

Sydney Axtel - HBS, Business (Economics). Sydney has been accepted to the MBA program at BSU, she was also accepted to participate in the BSU Venture College for young entrepreneurs interested in developing a new sustainable business.

Hope Gibson -  HBS, Education (Secondary, History). Hope’s thesis was titled “History and the First Ladies” which she will apply in her teaching of secondary education students.

Zachary Jones - HBS, Business (Economics). Zach has been accepted to the PhD program in Economics at the University of Florida.

Katelyn Marquez - HBS, Health Sciences (Medical Lab Sciences). Katelyn also was a member of the ISU Women’s

Baseball team. She will be applying to Physician Assistant Graduate programs in her home state of California.

Somelina Obiechina - HBBA, Business (Management). Somelina defended her thesis titled “An Ambidextrous View of Operational Performance: The Role of Competitive Priority and Strategic Alignment.” Somelina will be applying to Law Schools this summer.

Andrew Polenscke - HBS, Education (Physical Education). Andrew has been accepted into ISU’s new Master of Science in Athletic Training with Doctor of Physical Therapy accelerated program in the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. The impetus for the creation of this degree was realized from students such as Andrew.

Kendall Ramsay - HBS, Health Sciences, (Communication Sciences/Disorder). Kendall has been accepted to the AuD (Doctor of Audiology) program at the University of Cincinnati.

Alister Tencate - HBS, Science & Engineering (Physics). Alister has been accepted to Northern Illinois University to complete a PhD in Beam and Acceleration Physics. Alister has also been a member of the ISU Chamber Orchestra, the Idaho State Civic Symphony, and the ISU Track team.

Jordan Withers - HBS, Health Sciences (Health Care Administration), Jordan will be pursuing the Masters of Business Administration degree at ISU.

The following Honors students were selected as recipients of the 2016 Outstanding Achievement award for their college,

Katie M. Nicholls. College of Arts and Letters - Fine Arts & Humanities, Hope Elizabeth Gibson - College of Education,

Jenna L. Larson -College of Business, and Jordan Withers -Division of Health Sciences.
