Idaho State University’s Humanities Café Presents Looking Close: Photography and Design

April 2, 2026

Idaho State University’s College of Arts and Letters invites the community to the next Humanities Café, Looking Close: Photography and Design, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Union Taproom.

The event features two engaging presentations from ISU faculty exploring the ways we perceive and interact with images.

Assistant Professor Iris Gray will present Photography's Excellent Adventure: An Account of Photographic Time Travel, sharing her creative exploration of photography as a medium to play with time and possibility—a process that has included making works beyond traditional photographs.

Assistant Professor Leo Shan will present Perceiving Digital Design: Gestalt and Color, offering audience members practical tools for noticing the design principles at work in everyday digital media and applying them to their own visual materials.

Humanities Café events provide an informal setting for community members, students, and faculty to engage with ideas in the arts and humanities. Attendees are invited to enjoy discussion, refreshments, and thought-provoking presentations.
