History 5k Raises Hundreds For Student Scholarship

May 7, 2026

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, ISU students, alumni, and faculty – plus a dog – ran and/or walked a scenic route around Red Hill, through Mountain View Cemetery, and around the ISU quad in the second annual History Department Scholarship 5k fun run. At the end of the 5k race, trophies were handed out for first-place runner, first-place walker, and the 5k participant who "served" the best look. The dog, Maverick, did not receive a trophy but did receive praise for being a very good boy.

The event was organized by Dr. Meghan Woolley, assistant professor of history, to support and celebrate student success at ISU. At Tuesday’s race, hundreds of dollars were raised in donations from the 5k participants and the ISU community to support the Kevin Marsh Scholarship, which is granted annually to an ISU student with a passion for history. The scholarship honors Dr. Kevin Marsh, who retired from ISU in 2025 after many years of teaching, research, service, and running.

Donations for the Kevin Marsh Scholarship can be made here.
