CPI Intern of the Month: Amarissa Cramer

March 9, 2026

Amarissa Cramer is a junior Geology major who currently holds a CPI internship with GIS Training and Research Center at Idaho State University. In her role, Cramer helps build and maintain numerous GIS data layers for ISU campuses in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Meridian by using software to review campus floor plans and generate GIS features for campus buildings.

“Amarissa is a quick learner and is becoming an expert in her position, able to offer valuable feedback on standard protocol and offering ways to improve our campus GIS system,” said Keith Weber, Director of the GIS Training and Research Center and Cramer’s supervisor. “When confronted with problems in her work, she seeks to understand the issue and strives to find ways to fix it.”

Cramer’s experience has led her to increased skills in the geographic information systems sector, but has also provided boosts to her confidence.

“This experience has increased my confidence in contributing to long-term, real-world projects," Cramer said. “Working with established systems, rather than starting from scratch has taught me patience, accountability, and increased data management. I have learned that meaningful impact often comes from refining and improving what already exists.”

Originally from Buhl, Idaho, Cramer grew up in a military household in multiple states, including Alaska and Idaho. She is expecting to graduate in May 2027 and hopes to pursue a position with the United States Geological Survey’s Pathways Program. She is also interested in furthering her education through a graduate program. In her spare time, Cramer enjoys rock climbing, crocheting, and lifting weights.
