Career Readiness Skill of the Month: Technology

April 15, 2026

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines technology as the understanding and ethical use of technology to enhance efficiency, complete tasks, and accomplish goals. Regardless of what field you go into, technology will be part of the picture, whether it’s using data tools in healthcare, digital platforms in education, or design software in the arts. Being knowledgeable about, and able to evolve with, the ever-changing demands of new tech makes it easier to work with others, tackle challenges creatively, and stand out as someone ready for the work of the future.

Sample Behaviors are clear, visible actions or examples that show you’ve developed a particular skill or competency. For Technology, you need to…

  • Navigate change and be open to learning new technologies.
  • Use technology to improve the efficiency and productivity of their work.
  • Identify appropriate technology for completing specific tasks.
  • Manage technology to integrate information to support relevant, effective, and timely decision-making.
  • Quickly adapt to new or unfamiliar technologies.
  • Manipulate information, construct ideas, and use technology to achieve strategic goals.
