A Week of Engagement: Teaching, Learning, and Community at Idaho State University

The Center for Learning and Instructional Excellence at Idaho State University invites faculty, staff, and members of the community to take part in a weeklong series of conversations and learning opportunities focused on teaching, student success, and real-world knowledge. These events build toward our annual Teaching and Learning Symposium (Friday, March 13th) and are designed to bring our campus community together to learn, reflect, and engage.
Faculty Lecture Series: Avoiding Scams
Presenter: Dr. Erik Boyle, Nelson Family Endowed Professor, Accounting and Information Systems

Scams are becoming more sophisticated and more common in both personal and professional settings. In this session, Dr. Boyle will highlight common fraud schemes, the red flags to watch for, and practical steps you can take to protect yourself and your organization.

Panel Discussion: Crafting Caring Classrooms — Dealing with the Attrition of First-Generation Scholars from Our Spaces
Date: Wednesday, March 11
Time: noon–1 p.m.
Location: REND 129, Center for Learning and Instructional Excellence
Join us for a thoughtful panel exploring the challenges first-generation students face as they navigate higher education—and why so many leave before reaching their goals. Through data, lived experiences, and open dialogue, panelists will discuss the “Meat Grinder” paradox and how educators can respond through pedagogy and support.

Teaching and Learning Symposium
A Student-Ready Campus: How Faculty Shape Learning, Discovery, and Student Success
Date: Friday, March 13
Time: 9–11 a.m.
Location: Salmon River Suites, Student Union Building
This year’s symposium brings our week of engagement to a close with a keynote by Dr. Aaron Brown from the Council for Opportunity in Education, who will discuss how faculty play a critical role in creating a student-ready campus and advancing student success.
- Breakfast will be available from 8:00–9:00 a.m. for the first 75 participants who RSVP.
- RSVP deadline: March 9
- Zoom rooms will be reserved for outreach campuses, and a Zoom-only option will also be available in the calendar event.
