Reminder: Updated CPI Eligibility Requirements

August 17, 2026

As faculty and staff return for the fall semester, the Career Path Internship (CPI) Program would like to remind campus departments of the updated student eligibility requirements that took effect July 1, 2026.

Students participating in the CPI Program must now have junior standing or higher. An exception remains in place for students enrolled in the College of Technology. This eligibility change supports the long-term sustainability of the CPI Program while helping ensure CPI opportunities are focused on students who are further along in their academic programs and preparing to transition into the workforce. CPI positions are intended to provide meaningful, career-connected experiences that allow students to apply classroom learning in professional settings.

Departments planning to hire CPI students for the upcoming academic year should confirm that prospective interns meet the updated eligibility requirement before moving forward with an appointment. College of Technology students may continue to be considered under the program exception.

Supervisors with questions about student eligibility or upcoming CPI appointments are encouraged to contact the CPI office for assistance.
