Jon Armstrong, Nell Flanders, and the Idaho State-Civic Symphony release new album: "Voluntary Breath"
Music faculty, Jon Armstrong releases new album of his composition, "Voluntary Breath" a tenor saxophone concerto that was recorded by Nell Flanders and the Idaho State-Civic Symphony.
The album is released October 2 on digital, CD, and vinyl. This is the ISCS's 2nd orchestral record, and the result of the tremendous efforts by students, faculty, and staff at ISU. The composition is inspired heavily by the sounds and experiences of the NICU, where Jon and his wife Erin's son spent his first 9 months.
The piece features orchestrations of hospital sounds and is dedicated to the incredible health care workers who saved his life time and time again. The album will be co-released on Orenda Records and ISU's own City Creek Records.
Additionally, Jon Armstrong will be traveling to Los Angeles to perform the piece with the internationally recognized chamber orchestra, Bridge to Everywhere at the Jazz Refractions music festival. While in LA, Armstrong and Bridge to Everywhere will also be collaborating Mount Saint Mary's University for a series of rehearsals, panels, and active workshops on music therapy and holistic nursing practices.
