ISU-UPAEP Partnership Expands Faculty Opportunities Through Global Summer 2027

October 8, 2026

A new academic partnership between Idaho State University and Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP) is creating opportunities for international collaboration beyond student exchange. Through UPAEP Global Summer 2027, ISU faculty can apply to spend four weeks in Puebla, Mexico, co-teaching undergraduate or graduate courses with UPAEP professors, sharing research interests and developing new academic connections. The program will take place from June 7 to July 2, 2027, bringing faculty from both institutions together through teaching, research and academic exchange.

The opportunity builds on the exchange agreement established between ISU and UPAEP earlier this year, facilitated by Shawn Bascom of ISU’s International Programs Office, Dr. José Eduardo Villalobos Graillet of the Department of Anthropology and Languages, and ISU Provost Adam Bradford. The agreement gives ISU students new opportunities to study in Mexico, and Global Summer extends that partnership to faculty. Through co-teaching and research-related activities, ISU professors can share their expertise with UPAEP colleagues, develop new academic connections and explore possibilities for future teaching, research and institutional collaboration.

UPAEP’s Summer 2027 courses cover business, health sciences, humanities and social sciences, creative sciences, engineering, languages and interdisciplinary studies, with options relevant to many programs at ISU. Faculty may find courses connected to fields such as film and media, business and economics, public health, biology, engineering, computer science, education and global studies. Courses are taught in either English or Spanish, so faculty do not need to speak Spanish to apply for courses offered in English. Selected participants will co-teach with a UPAEP professor, giving both faculty and students the opportunity to exchange disciplinary and cultural perspectives.

UPAEP will provide selected faculty with round-trip transportation, single-occupancy accommodations, three meals per day and organized cultural activities during the four-week stay. Applications are open through Dec. 4, 2026. Faculty interested in participating can click here for information about participating courses, eligibility and application requirements.
