Retirement Celebration for Catherine Black
April 17, 2025
Academic Affairs wishes to share that Catherine Black plans to retire this August. Black came to ISU in 1993, beginning her employment as a graduate teaching assistant in Biological Sciences. After completing her graduate degree in 1996, she continued to teach biology at ISU for more than two decades, primarily on the Idaho Falls campus, achieving the rank of Senior Lecturer. In 2014, Black was named an ISU Master Teacher and in 2017 she was named ISU’s Distinguished Teacher. In addition to teaching, she mentored her students in numerous undergraduate research projects. Black became well-known in Idaho Falls for her work with her ISU students in K-12 outreach through hands-on STEM activities in the community.
In 2019 Black transitioned to a position in Academic Affairs as Program Coordinator and Academic Advisor for the Idaho Falls campus. She served the University in many capacities, including as a Faculty Senator and on the most recent Strategic Plan Committee. She was recognized twice as the Idaho Falls Outstanding Club Advisor of the Year for advising the Future Health Professionals of America Club.
It is our honor to invite the ISU community to join us in celebrating Catherine Black’s years of service at Idaho State University and giving her a warm send-off.
