Volunteers Needed: Haunted Science Lab
October 6, 2025
A Halloween tradition returns this month, and they need your help.
Idaho State University’s Department of Physics and the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello’s Haunted Science Laboratory will return to the Bannock County Event Center in late October. Department staff is seeking volunteers to assist with setting up and preparing for the event, which will host hundreds of local students. The Haunted Lab features more than 50 educational and interactive science exhibits designed to delight, fright, and educate kids of all ages. Some exhibits use the same principles as Disneyland’s Haunted Science Mansion, except they are explained.
“Helping out with the Haunted Science Laboratory is a great way to celebrate Halloween and share your excitement about STEM with all who attend,” said Steve Shropshire, professor of physics and lead organizer.
The setup for the event will take place from October 7 through October 15. Field trips are scheduled for October 16, 17, and 20 through 24. The public day will be October 25, and take-down sessions will be from October 26 through October 31.

Idaho State’s Department of Physics and the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello have hosted the Haunted Science Laboratory as a free field trip for local schools for over 10 years. In 2024, nearly 2,000 local students and adults from around the region visited the Haunted Science Laboratory on a field trip, and when it opened to the public, more than 450 visitors stopped by the lab.
