Nursing Professor Selected for National Committee

January 29, 2023

Mary Nies, Nies, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAAHB, has been selected to serve as part of the Ambassador Program of the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR).

The FNINR Advocacy Committee carefully reviewed all applications that were received for consideration of appointment as an FNINR Ambassador. They received a very large pool of applications this year from a diverse group of nursing faculty, nurse administrators, and clinical practice leaders from across the United States.

Nies was selected on the overall strength of her application, based on criteria that included research-related experience, lobbying, advocacy, and policy-related experience, as well as stated goals to be achieved as an ambassador. By accepting this role, she will be committing herself to ongoing contact with and education of Congressional members and staff regarding the importance of nursing research and funding for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR). She will also serve as a resource in supporting NINR’s mission at regional nursing research conferences and with local policy makers and media to enhance their understanding of the impact of NINR’s intramural and extramural research.
