ISU School of Performing Arts to Present:“The Book of Will”

March 23, 2023

Idaho State University’s School of Performing Arts will present its final show of the season: “The Book of Will” on April 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Beverly B. Bistline Theatre in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Picture it: William Shakespeare has been dead for three years. After a poorly copied version of Hamlet is produced at a nearby stage, the King’s Men put their heads together to try and preserve Shakespeare’s legacy by publishing the first folio of his works. The King’s Men quickly find out that this is no easy feat. As the community of actors scour Elizabethan London looking for Shakespeare’s sides, they’re faced with crooked publishers, their own mortality and the race against the clock. “The Book of Will” by Lauren Gunderson is a story of love, loss, and the creation of the book that would change the world of theatre forever.

“This piece speaks to the heart of artists and lovers of art," said Show Director Vanessa Ballam. "‘The Book of Will’ examines the necessity of art, the sacrifices to create art, and the legacy that we leave behind as artists.”

Concessions will be available for purchase at select performances. Refreshments for “The Book of Will” will be available before the show, beginning at 6:45 on April 14 and 22 and also after the show for the return of the "Afterglow Reception" on opening night, April 14. Selections include beer, wine, soft drinks, and seasonal snacks.
