ISU School of Performing Arts to Present “Cendrillon” a Cinderella Opera

January 17, 2023

Idaho State University’s School of Performing Arts will present “Cendrillon” on Feb. 10, 16, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. in Frazier Hall.

“Cendrillon” is Massenet’s beautiful operatic retelling of the fairy tale of Cinderella, translated to English. We meet the horrible stepmother, Madame de la Haltière, and step-sisters Noémie and Dorothée, Cendrillon’s kind-hearted father, Pandolfe, the Fairy Godmother, and, of course, Le Prince Charmant. This well-known fairy tale is set to Massenet’s sparklingly magical score, which aside from the beautiful vocal writing, includes ballets and French court dances, processional marches for the princesses, and lullabies for the sleeping Cendrillon and Prince.

“Community members of all ages will find delight in the ISU School of Performing Arts’ Spring 2023 opera production of Massenet’s Cinderella," said Director Director Diana Livingston Friedley. "Performed in ISU’s Frazier Theatre, the work will feature vibrant sets and costumes, the ISU Chamber Orchestra, and singers from ISU and the community. Our ninety-minute adaptation will provide viewers with a visually beautiful fairy-tale story and charming music!

The School of Performing Arts is excited to announce that concessions will be available for purchase at select performances. Refreshments for “Cendrillon” will be available before the show, beginning at 6:45 on February 10 and 18, and also after the show for the return of the "Afterglow Reception" on opening night, Feb 10. Selections include beer, wine, soft drinks, and seasonal snacks.
