Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program Applications Now Open

Idaho State University Continuing Education and Workforce Training’s EMT Program will open applications for its Spring 2024 EMT course on October 15, 2023. The priority deadline for applications is November 30, 2023. Final applications are due December 15, 2023. The EMT Program is a “by acceptance only” course. Applicants will have their applications reviewed and top applicants will be interviewed before acceptance.

The EMT course meets the Idaho and national requirements to apply for certification as an EMT-Basic. Candidates will learn the roles, responsibilities, and functions of an EMT including insights into legal and ethical principles, patient assessment, essential emergency care skills, proper use and maintenance of essential equipment for patient care and safety, developing effective written and verbal communication skills, and learning to appropriately recognize and respond to patients' emotional needs. Upon completion, students must pass both a state skills exam and a national written exam for certification. This is an intensive course conducted over 16 weeks. Students attend 8-hours of class per week and participate in 7 Saturday Skills days.

The EMT program is an evening and Saturday course. Class runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 pm-10 pm and every other Saturday from 9 am-5 pm. 

The Spring 2024 EMT Course will begin on January 9, 2024 and runs through ~May 5, 2024. 

In alignment with state requirements, students must attend 100% of the course to complete the program successfully. Clinical facilities may require proof of COVID/FLU vaccinations prior to clinical rotations.
