All Invited to a Vocal Masterclass with Martin Wright

All are invited to join the Idaho State University Department of Music for a masterclass with Martin Wright in the Fine Arts Building, Room 110 on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 4-6 p.m. 

Wright has enjoyed a career in opera of over 50 years, as coach/accompanist, singer, chorus master and conductor.

A native of Murtaugh, Idaho, his early piano training was with Lova Watts, Teala Bellini, and Reid Nibley. He received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from BYU and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Arizona State University. As a singer, he has performed over 30 operatic roles, 25 oratorios, and cross-over repertoire with many symphony orchestras in the US, Europe, and Asia. He has served as chorus master for Arizona Opera, San Diego Opera, Dutch National Opera, Dutch Touring Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, and the Shanghai Opera House, where he was named Honorary Conductor and will return annually in the coming years. From 1993 - 2002, he was chief conductor of the Netherlands Radio Choir, where he returns regularly as guest conductor, and has also worked with the radio choirs of Berlin, Munich, Leipzig, Hamburg and Cologne. As a conductor, he has led 14 fully-staged opera productions, as well as oratorios and galas in the US, Germany, Thailand, and the Netherlands. He currently lives in Amsterdam, where he works as a freelancer and a music critic for an online opera magazine.
