Idaho State TRIO McNair Scholars Present Research at National Conference

This past March, the TRIO McNair Scholars program had a national conference located at the University of Maryland. This conference consisted of first-generation, limited-income, and underrepresented students from across the country that gathered to present their undergraduate research and learn about graduate research opportunities.

During the conference, students are able to network with graduate schools, faculty, and students while hearing from distinguished guests and panelists from a wide range of fields. 

Eleven staff and students from the ISU TRIO McNair Scholars program were in attendance, with four ISU McNair Scholars presenting their research at the conference.  

In attendance:  Rebecca Valles, TRIO Americorp Member and ISU TRIO Alumni  Samantha Jimenez Castro, TRIO McNair Scholars Graduate Assistant, ISU MBA student, and ISU TRIO Alumni  Amber Leyba, ISU Social Work major  Kathleen van Wesenbeeck, ISU Geology and Physics major Mason Wissert, ISU English major Esmer Garcia, ISU Psychology major  Savannah Crow, ISU Health Science major

Dalene Hunter

  • McNair Faculty Mentor: Dr. Thomas Klein
  • Research Topic: Revisions, Additions, and volumes; A comparative analysis of the two volumes of  Nathan Bailey’s Universal Etymological English dictionary

 

Jo Do 

  • McNair Faculty Mentor: Dr. Mona Xu 
  • Research Topic: Physical Activity in Rural Area and Association with Self-Expansion 

 

Maya Peters-Greño 

  • McNair Faculty Mentor: Dr. Braulio Gomez Fortes 
  • Research Topic: Phase 1 of Improving and promoting Urban Cycling in Bilbao Spain 

 

Leslie Maldonado 

  • McNair Faculty Mentor: Dr. Elizabeth Cartwright 
  • Research Topic: Hispanic Single Parents’ Accessibility to Medical Resources during COVID 19
