Isaac Daley

Idaho State University’s Continuing Education and Workforce Training (CEWT) has partnered with Portneuf Medical Center to sponsor their 4th Emergency Medicine Conference April 29-30, with pre-conference events beginning April 28. New this year is the addition of a dedicated session for Wilderness Emergency Medicine on April 30.

“From the Base to the Summit” will focus on up-to-date information geared to EMTs, paramedics, first responders, nurses, and other direct care workers with emergency medicine interest.

Presenters for this year’s conference were selected based on their expertise in their area of practice and their ability to convey current, evidence-based, practical information on their area of emergency medicine.

The keynote speakers for the conference will be Dr. Peter Antevy, MD, the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Handtevy – Pediatric Emergency Standards, Inc., and Dr. William Smith, MD, the President and Medical Director of Wilderness and Emergency Medicine Consulting, LLC. We are also pleased to have Wayne Denney, the Bureau of Chief Idaho Bureau of EMS and Preparedness, address the State of the State EMS in Idaho.

The pre-conference events will feature a Handtevy Instructor training course and two free sessions of Mental Health First Aid training for Fire/EMS providers. The conference features 32 different presenters and over 40 breakout sessions on various topics including: Pediatric Tips and Tricks, Cadaver Lab Demonstration, Diabetic Emergencies, Anaphylaxis, Airways, Cardiac topics, STEMI, Stroke, Drug Overdose Prevention, Point-Of-Care-Ultrasound, Medical Errors and Decision-Making Strategies, Wilderness Trauma, Unmanned Aerial Systems in SAR and more! An Ambulance/Fire SIM provided by CEI Fire Service and Technology and Idaho EMS will be available during breakout sessions.

The Emergency Medicine Conference will be held in the ISU Pond Student Union Building.
