Notes from Academic Affairs- Promotion and Tenure

September 9, 2021

Hello Faculty Colleagues,

It is wonderful to see everyone back on campus! As the semester begins, we wanted to highlight the Academic Affairs calendar, specifically as it relates to Promotion and Tenure, Third-Year Review, and Five-Year Periodic Performance Review.

Promotion and Tenure (P&T): For all faculty who are eligible for P&T, you can find the University P&T application here. Recommendations for P&T are due to the Provost’s Office on January 21, 2022. Please note that all colleges and departments have additional P&T applications and also have internal due dates that precede the January date for the Provost’s Office. Academic Affairs will be hosting a P&T workshop on Wednesday, November 10, and we welcome any faculty members to join. More information on this workshop will be coming soon.

Third-Year Review: The Third-Year Review is required for all Tenure-Track faculty. Third-Year Reviews are internal to each college and are meant to help provide substantive feedback regarding strengths and areas for improvement to faculty at this critical stage in the tenure timeline. Third-year documentation will be uploaded into the TMS system along with the annual evaluation ranking and are due to the Provost’s Office by March 25, 2022.  Specific details associated with this process will be forthcoming.

Five-Year Periodic Performance Review (PPR): The PPR is a post-tenure/promotion review that spans a five-year period and is designed to provide an overview of scholarly, service, and teaching activity for a faculty member (ISUPP 4010, I.A.). PPRs are due to the Provost’s Office on March 25, 2022.  PPR documentation will be uploaded into the TMS system along with the annual evaluation ranking.  Additional information regarding this process will be forthcoming.

Please make sure to consult with your Dean and Department/Program chair for additional college-specific procedures and due dates for each of these reviews at the department and college levels.

Thank you!
