Leslie Stewart and Timothy Hakenewerth publish manuscript in major counseling journal

March 5, 2020

In a major 'win' for the field of Animal Assisted Therapy, a manuscript submission by Idaho State University Associate Professor Dr. Leslie Stewart and counseling doctoral student Timothy Hakenewerth was recently accepted to a major counseling journal, the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health.

The title of the manuscript is Emotional Support Animal Requests: Recommendations for Holistic and Ethical Practices. The topic represents the first set of guidelines of its kind in mental health.

Stewart and Hackenewerth collaborated with Peter Rabinowitz, a OneHealth Scholar MD from University of Washington and Heather Fowler, a DVM (veterinarian) from Iowa. The inclusion of a OneHealth medical doctor and a veterinarian as collaborators helped to create a more comprehensive set of recommendations.
