POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s November Career Path Intern of the Month is Jonathan Match, a graduate student in the Master of Physical Education – Athletic Administration program.

Jonathan Match headshotMatch, who is originally from Allen, Texas, has his internship with ISU’s Department of Athletics, where he is responsible for all the sports information needs for the track and field and cross-country teams. His duties include writing meet recaps, previews of meets and student athlete feature articles. Match also creates graphics and videos for the entire athletic program, and runs the audio and video stream of the weekly “Coaches Show.”

“This internship and my supervisor, Steve Schaack, have taught me more about the inner workings of athletic administration than I would have ever been able to learn,” Match said. “When I finish my MPE-AA program I will be graduating with years of experience in the field. This internship has allowed me to decide on a branch of administration that I like and given me the experience needed to secure a job in this field when I have graduated.”

Recently, Match has been able to represent ISU as a sports information director at some of the away games and has enjoyed traveling to ISU’s opponents’ universities including University of Utah, Gonzaga and Utah Valley University.

“Jon has elevated the work in our office with his desire to learn and be better,” said Steven Schaack, assistant athletic director of media relations. “He has written outstanding event recap and human-interest stories, goes out of his way to help others in the office and will be well prepared for his first full-time job after he graduates.”

Match enjoys spending time camping and fishing with his wife. Match will graduate in August 2020 and hopes to land a job as a director of media relations or sports information at a mid-sized Division I university.
