ISU Jazz to present fall concert at Portneuf Valley Brewing

October 17, 2019

POCATELLO—The Idaho State University jazz program will present a special Halloween fall concert featuring the big band, the chamber jazz ensemble and a combo at Portneuf Valley Brewing on Oct. 31.

The concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free of charge. Guests are encouraged to come in costume.

In addition to hosting the concert, Portneuf Valley Brewing owner Penny Pink will donate to the Bob Pink Jazz Scholarship fund in honor of her late husband.

“The ISU jazz ensembles have been performing at PVB for years now, and we all just love the vibe,” said Jonathan Armstrong, ISU director of jazz studies. “It’s a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, which gives a chance for our talented students to let loose and really go for it. Plus, it’s such a special opportunity for Pocatello to see two great jazz large ensembles play in a small venue where you can really feel the music.”

The big band will perform jazz classics from the Count Basie Orchestra, Mike Barone Big Band, Thad Jones Big Band, as well as some modern selections. The chamber jazz ensemble will perform ancient music from India and Pakistan.
