Karen Hartman, an associate professor in the department of Communication, Media & Persuasion, was recently selected to serve on the 2019-2020 editorial board of the international journal Communication & Sport.
In 2018, the journal won the Prose Award as the Best New Journal in Social Sciences. Its impact factor was ranked fourteenth of 84 in the Communication field and seventeenth of 50 in the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism field.
The bi-monthly journal features work from international scholars and is in its seventh year of publication. The February issue focuses on issues such as media and politics in the 2018 PyeongChang winter Olympics, masculinity and race in sports media narratives, English football’s response to online racism, and concussion and labor politics in professional sports.
“Communication and sport research is a passion of mine and it’s a highlight of my career to be named to this editorial board,” Hartman says.
