ISU Central Academic Advising presents ‘Money Management for Student Success’

Idaho State University’s Central Academic Advising will hold a four-day presentation at the Museum Building Office of Financial Aid computer lab, Room 337 at the Pocatello campus from Monday, March 30 to Thursday, April 2 where students can learn about money management.

All daily presentations will run from 11 to 11:50 a.m., noon to 12:50 p.m. and 1 to 1:50 p.m.

• Monday, March 30: Students will learn about Bengal Jobs and Career Pathway Internships and how to find both on-campus and off-campus part-time employment opportunities to earn money and build their resume. Professionals from the ISU Career Center will be teaching how to use Bengal Jobs and also how to find paid work experience related to your chosen major or career.

• Tuesday, March 31: Attendees can learn about financial responsibility, including banking, credit and responsible expending with a plan. Rick Cheatum from the ISU Credit Union will provide valuable information on the proper use of credit, how to safely build credit and what resources are available to help people be responsible with money during college years.

• Wednesday, April 1: Carey Jennings from the ISU Office of Financial Aid will show students how to manage financial aid awards wisely to avoid common pitfalls, track your loan amount, estimate repayment obligations and explain the best uses of “surplus” financial aid money.

• Thursday, April 2: Janaan Haskell from the ISU Department of Economic Education will guide participants through money management scenarios to learn the long-term value of a college degree and how to develop a budget that will sustain students through college and beyond. Also, developing a realistic budget that allows students to meet their financial needs, avoid credit problems and start saving for the future will be explained in this presentation.
