Winner of Idaho State University holiday card contest announced

Student artist Seth Spencer is the winner of the annual Idaho State University holiday card contest.

Seth Spencer's winning entry.Spencer earned $1,000 for his work. The winning entry will also appear on the University holiday card, which is sent to thousands of University family members and supporters.

Spencer, an Idaho Falls native, will graduate this spring with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

“My father is an artist, and I was raised surrounded by artwork,” Spencer said. “My inspiration was to combine the iconic buildings and structures of ISU with a simple backdrop that referenced the holiday season.”

Spencer’s drawing features ISU buildings such as the Stephen’s Performing Arts Center and Holt Arena inside spherical Christmas tree ornaments.

Contest runner-up is Dylan Childress, who won $500 for his work. Childress drew a tiger with a present bearing the label “To Benny from SC.” A snow globe containing a miniaturized Pond Student Union Building sits beside the tiger.
