Idaho Conference on Health Care and Thomas Geriatric Symposium set Oct. 31 in Pocatello and Meridian

The 27th Annual Idaho Conference on Health Care and the 7th Annual Thomas Geriatric Health Symposium is Friday, Oct. 31 at Idaho State University in Pocatello. The conference is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom and will be broadcast live to Room 697 of the ISU-Meridian Health Science Center.

The ISU Division of Health Sciences is sponsoring the event, and the theme is “The Cutting Edge: Interprofessional Practice in Geriatrics,” focusing on how doctors and nurses from various disciplines can cooperate in treating a patient and working with families once a patient returns home.

The Thomas Geriatric Symposium is held annually for students and clinicians in the rehabilitation sciences. It is also open to nursing home and residential care facility administrators as well as occupational and physical therapists. The event is free to the public.

Pre-registration is required for the conference by Oct. 27.

The keynote address will be given by Gayle Hudgins, professor and director of experiential education at the University of Montana School of Pharmacy. Dr. Hudgins has specialized in geriatric pharmacy for over 30 years. Since 2002, she has served as principal investigator and director of the Montana Geriatric Education Center

Other presentations at the conference include “Affordable Care Act and Health Education: Refresh, Renew, Revamp NOW!” which will be geared toward the treatment of senior patients.

All participants will receive an electronic certificate of attendance.
