Idaho State University's "A Season of Note" will present the American folk music band The Kingston Trio at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Stephens Performing Art Center’s Jensen Grand Concert Hall.

The Kingston TrioBeginning as a group of college singers in the mid 1950s, the Trio formed in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The group released its self-titled, first album in 1958, and it contained a little, irresistible ditty called "Tom Dooley" – a tune that became a six million-selling super hit and started folk music's huge revival of popularity in the '50s and '60s.

At one point, the group had four albums at the same time in Billboard's Top 10 and nobody, not even the The Beatles, have ever had that. Favorite songs performed by the Trio include "The Road to Freedom," "M.T.A," "This Land Is Your Land" and "You're Gonna Miss Me."

Fifty-six years after "Tom Dooley" shot to the top of the charts, the Trio is still on the road 30 weeks a year.
