The Young People’s Saturday Art Studio at Idaho State University is holding the First Annual Children’s Art Class Exhibition at the John B. Davis Gallery inside the Fine Arts Building.

The opening reception for the exhibit is Monday, Oct. 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The show will run from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1. The John B. Davis Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Young People’s Saturday Art Studio is a new program started by Lori McPherson, a Master of Fine Arts graduate student in the Department of Art who has a vast background in teaching art with a master’s degree in art education from West Virginia University.

“We had an outstanding children’s art program at WSU as part of the art education degree program, and I wanted to provide the ISU Department of Art an opportunity to build a program of their own,” said McPherson. “I started the Young People’s Saturday Art Studio as a way to connect with the community and ISU as a whole as well as providing a unique experience with art to children. With the help of former ISU master of fine arts student and art adjunct faculty member Joanna Cleveland, we now have a thriving program which offers children a diverse experience with art materials.”

“This is a great honor and the current group of children are excited and have been hard at work to finish their projects for the show,” said McPherson. “I am in great hope that Young People’s Saturday Art Studio will become a permanent program offered by the ISU Department of Art and that this is the first of many exhibits by children.”
