Helping a 6-year-old girl’s Make-A-Wish dream come true is the goal of Idaho State University professor Alex Bolinger’s Organizational Behavior class. Bolinger’s senior-level class is planning and executing fundraisers to help get Emory, the Make-A-Wish candidate, to Disney World in the spring.

Emory has mitochondrial metabolic disease, which affects her muscles and motor and verbal skills. She lives in Idaho Falls with her parents and younger sister. Emory’s favorite things include the color pink, Lalaloopsy dolls and Skittles.

To make Emory’s Disney World dreams come to life, Bolinger’s class partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho. The students have planned a number of fundraisers, including: “Rake a Wish for Emory,” a karaoke event and a silent auction.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, and Saturday, Nov. 9, the students will participate in “Rake a Wish for Emory,” a fundraiser they planned. Students will go to the homes of friends and neighbors from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering to rake their lawns in exchange for a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Emory’s behalf. People interested in having their lawns raked are encouraged to contact the class.

The CoHo, a coffee shop on 4th Avenue near campus, will host karaoke from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, with live music to follow. A portion of the proceeds from sales will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Later in the month, on Monday, Nov. 18, and Friday, Nov. 22, the Pizza Hut across 5th Avenue from campus will donate a portion of its proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for Emory. Patrons will need to bring a flyer distributed by the students in Bolinger’s class to participate.

ISU’s Idaho Falls campus will host a silent auction to benefit Emory’s Make-A-Wish cause. The time and date will be determined soon.

Bolinger’s class will have the opportunity to meet Emory and her family in December.

Those who would like their lawn raked, wish to donate items to the silent auction or to make a donation to the class’s project to send Emory to Disney World, can contact Alex Bolinger at boliale2@isu.edu or (208) 282-6242.
