Idaho State University to present ‘Into the Woods’ award-winning musical April 6, 7, 9, 12, 13 and 14

Idaho State University's theatre, dance and music departments are teaming up to present the award-winning musical "Into the Woods" at 7:30 p.m. April 6, 7, 9, 12, 13 and 14 in the Beverly B. Bistline Theatre of the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Derek Gregerson, left, as Cinderella's prince, and John Punt, as Rapunzel's prince, rehearse a scene for Stephen Sondheim and James Lapines Tony Award-winning musical intertwines the plots of several Grimm fairy tales but with an added twist. The main characters come from "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella." They are tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife.  The show covers multiple themes including growing up, relationships, accepting responsibility, morality, and wish fulfillment and its effects.

Event posterThe cast is made up of 35 individuals. The production staff is made up of faculty members: Tara Young as the costume designer, Brett Harwood as the scenic designer, Chad Gross as the technical director, Lauralee Zimmerly as the choreographer, Julie Sorensen as the orchestra conductor; Kathleen Lane and Diana Livingston Friedley are the musical directors, and Sherri Dienstfrey as the director. Student assistants are Hannah Blair, Nathan Donahoo and Melissa Bodily.

Don't miss this extravaganza that explores the consequences of self-interest and "wishing" plus provides intricate, rhythmically difficult, and thought-provoking music.

Tickets can also be purchased online at www.isu.edu/tickets or at Vickers Western Stores in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Prices are $15 for adults, $9 for pre-college students, $7 for ISU students with valid Bengal IDs, and $9 for group tickets of 10 or more people.
