The Anderson Gender Resource Center at Idaho State University, through a grant from the Health and Human Services (HHS) Office on Women, is hosting an art workshop April 17 and a community art installation May 4 at the Old Town Pavilion in Pocatello.

The installation will support survivors of domestic violence and create public awareness of this important local issue.

In preparation for the installation, Anne Vest, a local artist, will conduct art workshops for survivors and supporters. Vest will lead workshop participants in the creation of artwork to be incorporated into the art installation she has designed. The April 17 art workshop will be held in the ISU Pond Student Union Bengal Cafe.

"Community participation is critical to the success and impact of this project. The workshop is free and welcomes all ages to attend," Vest said. "It is open to all members of the community, to either show support or to tell their own story."

The community art installation will be celebrated as the destination of the Take Back the Night March on May 4. Patrons of the First Friday Art Walk and the Take Back the Night March will have the opportunity to walk through and experience the art installation and listen to presentations honoring survivors. The art installation will be on exhibit during the month of May.
