Idaho Conference of Health Care, Thomas Geriatric Health Symposium set Oct. 19 at Idaho State University

The 25th annual Idaho Conference on Health Care and fifth annual Thomas Geriatric Health Symposium will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Pond Student Union Ballroom and be available at ISU-Meridian via ISU's distance learning.

The conference's main sponsor is the Idaho State University Division of Health Sciences. Registration for the conference is required by Oct. 15.

Nursing continuing education credit will be available. The symposium will also serve nursing home administrators and residential care facility administrators as well as occupational and physical therapists towards their licensing requirements. A certificate of completion can be provided upon written request.

The conference's keynote speaker is Lorie Eber, author of the book and the blog "Aging Beats the Alternative." She will deliver the keynote address "Overview of the Science of Gerontology."  Eber worked in a private law practice as a corporate litigator for 23 years. In 2004, she decided to make gerontology her new career.  She is also a certified personal trainer and a credentialed senior fitness specialist. She has worked for the Council on Aging Orange County for six years in various capacities, including as a field ombudsman and as the coordinator of the Council's Continuing Education Program. Eber has been an instructor of gerontology at Coastline Community College since 2006.

Other conference presentations include "Walk a Mile in My Shoes: Experience the Common Disabilities of Older Adults" and "Aging Brains, Dementia/Alzheimer's."
