Idaho State University students excel at National SkillsUSA competition

Idaho State University College of Technology SkillsUSA members recently returned from the annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo., with one student earning a gold medal and others placing high.

More than 5,000 outstanding career and technical education students, all state contest winners, participated in hands-on skill and leadership competitions. Idaho had the largest delegation with 147 students attending.

The College of Technology had four students who qualified to compete and attend. Students from the College of Technology received the following awards:

• Brady Anderson, Chubbuck, gold medal, Computer Maintenance Technology

• Tim Whiting, Pocatello, silver medal, Aviation Maintenance Technology

• Keith Zitterkopf, Pocatello, bronze medal, Automotive Service Technology

• Jake Jackson, Lava Hot Springs, 12th, CNC Milling

In addition, Amanda Donaldson, who served as a state office all year, participated in delegation duties to elect the new slate of national officers.

SkillsUSA is a national organization providing quality educational experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development, to more than 264,000 high school and college students and professional members, enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations. Representatives of business, industry, labor, and education judged contests in 91 skill and leadership development areas.
