Interested in becoming a pharmacist, physician assistant or nurse? A medical lab scientist, paramedic or speech-language pathologist?

Learn about some of the hottest fields at the sixth annual Idaho State University Health Science Experience Night, Thursday, Oct. 13, 5 to 7:30 p.m., at the Meridian Health Science Center, 1311 E. Central Drive.  Jobs in the health sector will be in high demand through 2016, according to the Idaho Department of Labor.

High school and college transfer students will have the opportunity to explore nearly two dozen careers in the health professions and sciences, visit with professors and clinical faculty, and enter to win an Apple iPad customized with a Bengal Pride skin.

"The health fields are becoming more technology based and ISU wants to help students stay ahead of the curve in their education," said Ali Crane, ISU-Meridian enrollment services director.  Winning the iPad is contingent upon attending ISU.

Health Science Experience Night attendees will also get hands-on experience in human patient simulation—the use of high-tech mannequins to duplicate medical scenarios in the real world.

For more information about Health Science Experience Night, call 373-1702 or visit www.isu.edu/meridian.

Also that evening, ISU-Meridian pharmacy students, in observance of American Pharmacists Month, will host their annual Pharmacy Open House and chili cook-off in the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Complex. The meal costs $5 for all the chili and dessert you can eat.

Students will conduct free blood pressure checks; provide education about diabetes, heart health, prescription drug abuse and poison prevention; host a children's pharmacy compounding activity; and administer flu shots. The first 40 vaccinations are free.  After that, the cost is $27.99.

For more information about the Pharmacy Open House, call 208-447-6916 or email Christie Caplinger at caplchri@pharmacy.isu.edu.
