Idaho State University librarians selected to Who’s Who in America

Cathy Gray, librarian at the University Library Center at ISU-Idaho Falls, Ruiling Guo, health sciences librarian at the Eli M. Oboler Library, and Phil Homan, catalog librarian, Oboler Library, have joined Eli M. Oboler in Who’s Who in America.
They are the first ISU librarians to be included in Who’s Who since Oboler, university librarian at ISU from 1949 to 1980, was featured in the 14 editions from 1956 to 1983. According to the 2009 edition—celebrating the 110th anniversary of publication since 1899—biographees are selected on the basis of “position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field.”
Gray, an assistant professor, received a Master of Education Degree from ISU and a Master of Science Degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky. She has worked as an elementary school teacher, a public library technician, a school librarian, and the director of the Blackfoot Public Library. Gray has also planned two statewide Idaho Library Association annual conferences and two ILA regional conferences. Her biography will appear in the 2010 edition of Who’s Who in America.
Guo, also an assistant professor, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in library science from Beijing University and the Master of Library and Information Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She has worked in Ethiopia and was a visiting scholar at the University of Victoria School of Health Information Sciences, British Columbia. Guo has published in the peer-reviewed Journal of the Medical Library Association, Chinese Ophthalmic Research, and Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology. She has also received grants, fellowships, and awards from the National Library of Medicine, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, and Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Candada. Her biography will appear in the 2010 edition of Who’s Who in America and the 2011 edition of Who’s Who in the World.
Homan, an associate professor, has a Master of Arts Degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., and a Master of Library Science from St. John’s University in New York City. He has studied in Germany and Israel. Homan is writing the first biography of Kittie Wilkins, known as the Horse Queen of Idaho. His research has been supported by grants from three state humanities councils, and he joined the Idaho Humanities Council Speakers Bureau in June 2009. His biography appeared in the 2009 edition of Who’s Who in America.
According to Marquis Who’s Who on the Web, Gray, Guo, and Homan have joined the ranks, with Oboler, of 23 Idaho librarians, including four from the University of Idaho, two from Boise State University, and one from Lewis-Clark State College.
