Idaho State University dance faculty member Zimmerly named Dance Educator of the Year

Lauralee Zimmerly, associate lecturer in the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education and in the Department of Theatre and Dance, has been awarded the 2010 Northwest District University Dance Educator of the Year by the American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

Lauralee ZimmerlyAAHPERD is an alliance of five national associations that includes the National Dance Association. The Northwest District is comprised of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Idaho.  

The award recognizes Zimmerly’s work as a university dance artist and educator.  She will be attending the AAHPERD Northwest annual conference held in Ellensburg, Washington to receive the award.  There she will present her research and a workshop entitled “Movement Enriched Curriculum” which details an ISU College of Education partnership program with School District #25.

Zimmerly, accompanied by four ISU students, is currently implementing the program in fourth-grade classrooms at Gate City Elementary School in Pocatello.
