Idaho Museum of Natural History building renovation proceeding, new galleries to open in fall

Renovations to the Idaho State Museum of Natural History, including the construction of a new elevator, are proceeding and the Museum’s galleries are scheduled to open this fall.

“We’re making great progress in the renovation of the building and the gallery areas, but the re-opening of the galleries, originally announced for July 1, have been postponed until this fall, at a date to be announced,” said Herbert Maschner, Museum director.

The Museum galleries have been closed since December, during the construction of a new ADA-approved elevator that is being built on the east end (closest to the Pond Student Union) of the ISU Museum Building. While that construction has been taking place, the Museum has been reorganizing its collections and completing an inventory of them to conform to the dictates of its accreditation review.

The new galleries will highlight the Idaho Museum of Natural History’s increased emphasis on research. When the galleries are complete, an opening date and time will be announced.
