Idaho State University Press has announced the publication of the book “Trials and Triumphs: The First Presbyterian Church of Pocatello, Idaho, 1904-2004,” by Thomas R. Cox.

Cox has written an unconventional history of Pocatello’s First Presbyterian Church from its gospel tent beginning in 1904 to its 100th birthday in 2004. The book shows how this particular story fits into larger stories of the American West, the United States and what he terms “the church universal.”

The author is a lifelong Presbyterian who resides in McCammon, and is also a professor emeritus of history at San Diego State University.

“Trials and Triumphs” is available at the ISU Bookstore in the ISU Pond Student Union Building or by mail from ISU Press, 921 South 8th Ave., Stop 8265, Pocatello, ID 83209.

Its cost is $17.95 per copy. Idaho residents add $1.08 for sales tax. For postage and handling, add $3 for the first book and $1 for each additional copy. The book’s ISBN is 0-937834-74-2, 2007.
