“Dedicated to My Maternity (Dedicada a Mi Maternidad” free prenatal education and support groups are being established in American Falls and Aberdeen.

These groups focus on the needs of pregnant women. They have been established by Health West, the Idaho State University physician assistant program and the Hispanic Health Project.

The classes are being held at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Aberdeen Middle School and on Wednesdays in American Falls at the Hispanic Health Project office.

The classes are designed to bring together pregnant women living in the American Falls and Aberdeen areas, along with a variety of local health practitioners, to build a supportive network to learn about women’s prenatal health and to prepare for a healthy child. Classes will focus on health during pregnancy, diet, exercise, care for newborns, the stages of pregnancy and childbirth.

Heather Schaper, a student in the ISU Physician Assistant program and former health educator for Health West, is the lead for the maternity class. The “Dedicated to My Maternity” program recently received $2,500 to purchase supplies and incentives to encourage participation at the classes from the ISU Physician Assistant Foundation.

For more information on this program or Health West, contact Mindy Stosich at (208) 232-7862, ext. 120.
