Compatibility of evolution, creation topic of presentation Feb. 20

The Idaho State University Department of Geosciences and the Idaho Museum of Natural History welcome Patricia Kelley to campus for a presentation titled “Evolution and Creation: Conflicting or Compatible?” scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the College of Education Auditorium.

   Kelley was educated at the College of Wooster and Harvard University, and has held positions at University of Mississippi, National Science Foundation, University of North Dakota and University of North Carolina–Wilmington. She is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a past president of the Paleontological Society and the Paleontological Research Institution’s Board of Trustees. She received the 2003 Outstanding Educator Award from the Association for Women Geoscientists.

As a specialist in mollusc evolution and the wife of a Presbyterian minister, Kelley is keenly interested in teaching evolution and the evolution/creation controversy. She had an article published in the December 2000 issue of Geotimes titled, “Studying Evolution and Keeping the Faith.”
