The Idaho State University facilities services department announces the retirement of John Johnston, maintenance craftsman, senior, on Sept. 28. A farewell reception will be held for Johnston Sept. 26 at 11:30 a.m. at the facilities services maintenance department, Building 26.

Johnston began his employment with ISU as a heat plant operator on Dec. 30, 1974. In 1976 he was promoted to maintenance craftsman, senior. Johnston is currently responsible for the maintenance of the Life Sciences Complex, Reed Gymnasium and other recreation facilities at ISU and is a certified pool technician for the Reed Gym swimming pool.

In his 33 years of service, Johnston believes he has worked in every building on campus and has performed many duties. He is certified on forklifts, man-lifts and other large equipment. For several years Johnston was assigned to read the electric and water meters on campus every month.

Johnston states that every morning he walks through his assigned buildings, talks with department personnel and helps with work requests in order to boost personnel spirit.

“The biggest thrill I get from working at ISU,” Johnston said, “is just helping others. I will miss my fellow workers and all the department personnel. But, will I miss getting up to come to work—not a chance!”

For more information on Johnston’s retirement reception contact the maintenance department at 282-2694.
