Memorial Service for Les Roh scheduled Nov. 3 in Idaho Falls

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Les Roh is scheduled to be held in Idaho Falls Nov. 3. The service will be at 10 a.m. in the Bennion Student Union Building at ISU-Idaho Falls.

Roh, 74, a native of Idaho Falls, was Idaho State University’s all-time leading basketball scorer and a member of the ISU Sports Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor. He was suffering from cancer and died Oct. 1 in Cedaredge, Colo.

A graveside service was held Oct. 5 at Cedaredge Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Roh of Cedaredge; two daughters, Jodi Maheras of Albuquerque, N.M., and Susie Roh of Denver; a granddaughter, Lucy Roh Hall of Denver; a sister, Mary Williams of Rigby; and a brother, Ed Roh of Lake Havasu, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Les Roh Memorial Fund at Idaho State University, c/o ISU Foundation, P.O. Box 8050, Pocatello, ID 83209.

Roh, a 1957 graduate of Idaho State College in physical education, is the only four-time first-team all-league basketball player in Bengal history. He was All-Rocky Mountain Conference from 1953 to 1956 for teams that won 76 games and lost only 28, won four consecutive conference championships and made four appearances in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

En route to setting ISU’s career scoring record with 1,964 points, he was the only Bengal player to lead the team in scoring all four years and to score more than 400 points every year he played. He scored 416, 462, 565 and 512 points in his four seasons and averaged 19.1 points per game in his career.

Roh became the first Bengal basketball player to have his number retired. His number 7 was retired in a ceremony at his final home game.

Roh was a highly-successful boy’s basketball coach at Idaho Falls, Rigby and Minico High Schools, He was the athletic director at Idaho Falls High School after he retired from coaching.
