A free community dance workshop and a performance on Oct. 21 are highlights of the visit by dancer and choreographer Nora Chipaumire, who will be an artist in residence with the Idaho State University Department of Theatre and Dance.

The free workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the Red Hill Dance Studio. This workshop will be open to all community members, faculty, staff, and students.

The free, informal concert, featuring Chipaumire in conjunction with Idaho Moving Project (I~Move), will be performed at 3 p.m. in the James E. and Beverly Rogers Black Box Theatre in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature Chipaumire's unique fusion choreography and a special sneak preview of I~Move's newest piece choreographed by Chipaumire.

Chipaumire, who currently resides in New York, will be visiting ISU as a guest artist the week of Oct. 16-21, through the generosity of the Connie Smith Bowen Arts Series. Originally from Zimbabwe and now performing with the renowned dance company Urban Bush Women, she will be in residence with I~Move for the entire week and will act as a guest artist in many of the dance program's classes.

"Nora Chipaumire's work provides an insightful and physically vibrant look at the varied identities in African contemporary life, so don't miss your chance to participate in this unusual event," said Melanie Kloetzel, ISU director of dance.
