ISU to host LUNAFEST film festival Oct. 27-28

Idaho State University Anderson Gender Resource Center will host LUNAFEST at 7 p.m. in the ISU Pond Student Union Building Bengal Theatre on Oct. 27 and 28. Tickets are $2 for students and $3 for the public.

LUNAFEST is a national traveling festival of short films by, for and about women. The films are pulled from top festivals across the nation. The proceeds will be divided with 15 percent going to the Breast Cancer Fund and 85 percent going to the Gender Resource Center.

The films are as follows:

• "Mann Ke Manjeeré" – A story of the music video that was inspired by courageous domestic violence survivor Shameem Paathan and eventually won a MTV Award Nomination for "Best Music Video-Indipop."

• "Plum Flower" – In China during1948 female infanticide is normal when there are too many girls in one family, a mother and father must make that moral decision when their fifth daughter is born.

•"Slip of the Tongue" – Takes a look at perceptions of beauty, ethnicity and body image that define "ethnic make-up."

• "Breached" – The story of a Mexican women nearing delivery and her determination to have her baby born on American soil.

• "City Paradise" – The story of Tomoko who travels to London from Japan to learn English and accidentally discovers a mysterious secret city underground inhabited by friendly aliens and beautiful blossoms.

• "Top of the Circle" – An experimental performance piece that asks "Who is at the top of the food chain?" and explores the cycle of life and death.

• "Dear Talula" – New Yorker Lori Benson is diagnosed with breast cancer just 14 months after the birth of her daughter Talula. The film chronicles an emotionally charged year in which she confronts her own mortality and ultimately strengthens her connection to her true self.

• "Kylie Goldstein-All American" – A documentary about a Chinese adopted, All-American six-year-old.

• "Agricultural Report" – A concerned cow discovers the bliss of ignorance.
