Idaho State-Civic Symphony announces 2018-2019 schedule featuring Idaho artists and music

POCATELLO— Tickets are now on sale for the Idaho State-Civic Symphony’s 2018-2019 season featuring guest artists and music related to Idaho culture.

First time ticket subscribers can receive a 50-percent discount.

The upcoming season will feature the works of Shostakovich, Mendelssohn, Beethoven and more. It also includes the annual Halloween Family Concert “Video Game Favorites,” the annual POPS concert featuring guest musical group Acoustic Eidolon, and features guest artists Hyeri Choi and the Kobie Watkins Grouptet.

“We are very excited for this season,” said Heather Clarke, symphony executive director. “We have a new conductor in Julie Sorensen, and we will connect our music and performances with our great state of Idaho. We are excited to also showcase numerous fine artists and their work prior to each concert, highlighting the talent we have in Idaho.”

To purchase season tickets, contact the ISU Box Office at (208) 282-3595. All packages, including the flex package, can be purchased until 4 p.m. Sept. 21.

The 50-percent discount for first-time subscribers can be obtained at the Box Office. Youth Orchestra concerts are free.

The season opener will be held on Sept. 21 featuring Choi on violin and the works of Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Borodin and Debussy.  

Concerts and dates are listed below.

Classical Series Dates:

Sept. 21: Season opener featuring Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto,” Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” Borodin’s Symphony No. 2 and Debussy’s Symphony in B Minor. The opener will also feature guest artist Hyeri Choi on violin.

Nov. 2: Youth Artist Competition featuring the competition winners and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.

Dec. 7 and 8: Joy to the World: An ISU Christmas.

Feb. 8: Valentine Concert Evening of Jazz featuring guest artist Kobie Watkins Grouptet.

April 26: Season Finale: A Celebration of Idaho featuring Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “The New World Symphony.”

Season Add-Ons:

Oct. 27: Halloween Family Concert “Video Game Favorites.

Dec. 5: Youth Orchestra Fall Concert.

March 15: POPS Concert featuring guest artist Acoustic Eidolon.

April 17: Youth Orchestra Spring Concert.

Complete Season Package includes five Classical Series Concerts plus the POPS concert

            Prices: adults - $180, current ISU faculty/staff - $168 and students (K-12) - $90

Classical Series Season Package includes 5 Classical Series Concerts only

            Prices: adults - $160, current ISU faculty/staff - $150 and students (K-12) - $80

Flex Season Package includes any three classical concerts

            Prices: adults, current ISU faculty/staff and students (K-12) - $102
