Idaho State University to host first annual ISU Summer Dance Festival in June

The College of Arts and Letters will host the first annual ISU Summer Dance Festival on June 26-30.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop taught by renowned ISU dance faulty and community professionals. 

The festival will also coincide with ISU’s Conservatory Theatre Camp, and students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops in theatre. 

It will feature guest artist Sara Pickett, who danced professionally with Rick Robinson’s Total Control, and was a core member of Millennium, a hip hop company in Denver with Kenny Jimenez.  She has co-produced and presented work in BRINE in Salt Lake City, now in its third season. Her choreography has been performed at the University of Utah, Weber State University, Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, Sugarspace and the American College Dance Association, among others.

Pickett received her Master of Fine Arts degree in modern dance from the University of Utah as a recipient of a University Teaching Award, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in dance from Weber State University where she was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the Lindquist Creative Arts Fellowship. Pickett also worked as public relations associate for the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah from 2007 to 2013.

Each morning, dancers will participate in ballet and modern technique classes. Morning technique classes are open on a week basis or by drop in. To buy a pass to attend all of the morning technique courses it is $100, or $15 a class to drop in. 

Early bird registration is $275, and regular registration is $325. For students who need to stay overnight, early bird registration is $450, and regular registration is $500.

For each sibling that registers, there will be a $25 discount. Early registration ends May 20. Tuition covers lunch every day.
